This is Stella O' Toole, but the kids at school call her little Stella Spool. I made her last night. It is my first attempt at painting a character. Am I going to rush out and set up an Etsy site and try to sell her? No. I would love to create a world around some little characters though, it would be so much fun. I do have some issues with drawing bodies though. The front view is easier that any 3/4 view. So, I think it's an ok first try. Is this what Stella really looks like? Don't know, but I will have fun developing her as I learn the best way to paint these little guys. My first lessons came fast and furious last night. Here they are in no particular order.
- Have some sort of idea of what you are going to paint before you put out all of your acrylic paint colors on the palette. Mine were dry by the time I picked up the brush...oops.
- A big brush would come in handy to paint the background! Which leads me to.
- Patience and some energy are key. Don't start painting at 8:30pm on a work night.
- When painting little characters, Stella is around 4" and my man Fred (bun, bun) is 1 1/2", canvas is not your friend! I have to get some wood panels to paint on. The smoother the better.
Well, that's it. I debated on whether or not I would show her because I don't feel like she is right, but that excuse has gotten me nowhere...fast! I am trying to change my bad behaviors and have decided to put it all out there. Hope you like her.
